Firefox Spell Check

Due to updates, over time, that have been made to the site and the age of this article, this post may not display correctly. In particular images may be missing or product reviews display incorrectly.

If this is the case and you'd particularly like me to fix it, then please reach out to me on Twitter.

I don’t know if something has changed in Firefox 3, but I keep finding instances where the spell check doesn’t appear to be working.

Anyway, whether anything has changed or not, I’m not sure. But I have found out that the spell check is available only for text areas and not for text input fields. You can enable the spell check for text input fields, though. To do this…

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.
  2. In the filter field in the config file type layout.spellcheckDefault.
  3. The default value is 1, double click the entry and change the value to 2.
  4. Click OK and close.
  5. Finally, restart Firefox for the changes to activate.

The Dictionary addons for Firefox have always been there, and they always will, its one of the many reasons why I use Firefox!

And yes its English EN not American “COLOR”!
