Portable DVD players in Cars

A lot of new cars appear to come with DVD players built into headrests, etc. Mine doesn’t and I’ve wondered whether they’re worthwhile.

My daughter borrowed a portable DVD player whilst on holiday recently and enjoyed the experience of being able to watch DVDs wherever she wanted, but never go an opportunity to try it in the car.

Wouldn’t they make you car sick?

The after-market solutions, that are designed to be tied to the back of headrests, appear, to me anyway, to be a poor solution. Wouldn’t it be as cheap to buy truly portable ones that you can use elsewhere as well? Of course, there are solutions to this – kits that allow you to convert portable players to hang off the headrest. Wouldn’t it be easier for them to have it on their lap? If they’re younger I’m sure tying it to the headrest out of their way is probably the better solution.

Personally, I’d go for the true portable solution. Of course, they could always play travel games and chat 😉

Anyway, there’s a great buyer’s guide over at 3 Wise Monkeys, who also sell a wide selection of portable players, including some with rather useful cordless headphones (ahhhh, silence in the car!).
