PlayStation 4 Firmware 1.70 due April 30th

Accidentally “outed” by both Sony in Japan and Greece over the last week, the next PlayStation 4 firmware release, 1.70, is due to start rolling out on April 30th. And it’s a biggie!

Features include…

Streaming Video

Upon release of this firmware, you will finally be able to archive Twitch broadcasts. Both Twitch and Ustream broadcasts will be also provided with a higher resolution of 720p.

Video Sharing

Not part of the firmware update, but requiring it, SHAREfactory will be a downloadable app, providing a much more powerful video editor. Add transitions, filters, text, music, etc. to your videos.

Other PS4 SHARE enhancements include the ability to save videos to USB, change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips. Lastly, the HDCP signal can be switched off for capturing gameplay via HDMI

Pre-Ordered Games

Pre-ordered a game? How about the PS4 downloads the game up to 4 days in advance so that it’s ready to play immediately upon official release? Well, that’s what will be possible after this update. It will even show a countdown to when you can start playing it!

Other

There are also features for Remote Play on Vita TV i.

Obviously, more features will become known about nearer the time – none-the-less, it’s already looking like an exciting update.

  1. although that’s not available outside of Asia, so will be of limited advantage to most people[]
