One Year at Automattic!

Today marks my one year anniversary working at Automattic and, yes, it's been a hell of a year.

Read about my typical work day

I'm not actually going to say a great deal other than the fact that it has been a genuine privilage and pleasure to work for the company. I had some high expectations upon joining as to what working for Automattic would be like and I wasn't disappointed.

For the first time in a long time (if ever) I've genuinely enjoyed starting work each morning. And I love my team – VIP are a great bunch of people to work with and even though we all have our own personalities, there is not a single person I wouldn't want to work with.

The beginning of the year went relatively slowly as I tried to learn the role and suffered, as many people do, with "imposter syndrome". But the last few months absolutely flew by.

I've visited lots of places and met lots of people. Many, many people. But I've enjoyed it all. I'd love to go back to ONA this year as the event was fantastic and Washington was such a nice place to visit.

So what's ahead for me? I'll be publishing, soon, a post about what I've been learning over the last year and my plans for the year ahead. However, needless to say, yeah, lots of learning is planned – Gutenberg, JavaScript and SVN are all on my schedule. I've also volunteered to run a local WordPress meetup (my nearest is an hour's drive away) and be a speaker at a WordCamp. Oh, and I'd really like to commit to Core again this year (it's been a while).

So here's to my first year and, I hope, many, many more to come.
