Lumie Bodyclock – How to switch from 24 hour time display

If you have a Lumie Bodyclock (essentially a bedside clock with light therapy built-in), then it defaults to a 24 hour clock. There’s nothing in the manual about switching this to a 12 hour display, but look carefully at the unlit parts of the LCD display and you’ll see AM and PM indicators lurking.

    So can it be done?

    Aphantasia and me

2 years ago I wrote an article at work about aphantasia and how it affected me. People found it helpful and at least one person had the realisation as a result that they had it too. However, I’ve been reluctant to publish it externally, for the simple reason that I’m no medical expert, and all of this is based on my limited knowledge of the subject but, particularly, how it affects me, especially considering that how it affects me will be different for others.

Goodbye YouTube Embed – the end of my WordPress plugin

YouTube Embed was one of my earliest WordPress plugins. But with tight integration of videos in WordPress by default, particularly with the block editor, it’s become less and less relevant. I struggled to find time to continue to maintain it, let alone add in block features.

But, what I didn’t want to do, was just abandon it and leave users not knowing this and, potentially, leaving them open to security issues.

So, back in 2023 I started talking to one of the plugin’s biggest competitors, EmbedPlus.

Sunrise alarm clocks and why Lumie customer service sucks

Many years ago my wife bought me a bedside alarm clock with a built in sunrise feature. If you’ve not come across this kind of thing, before the alarm comes on, a light slowly brightens on the clock, simulating a sunrise, both in brightness and colour tone. The idea is that it wakes you more naturally and you’ll feel more refreshed than being awoken suddenly by a loud noise.

It was made by a British company called Lumie, who solely creates products based on light therapy.
