Lumie Bodyclock – How to switch from 24 hour time display

If you have a Lumie Bodyclock (essentially a bedside clock with light therapy built-in), then it defaults to a 24 hour clock. There’s nothing in the manual about switching this to a 12 hour display, but look carefully at the unlit parts of the LCD display and you’ll see AM and PM indicators lurking.

So can it be done?

I spoke to Lumie and they confirmed that it could1. The clock uses the same software for whichever country and is supported because of the US. The instructions have not been added to the UK version but, in due course, will be.

So, here’s how to do it…

  1. Remove the power from the unit, and wait for the unit to power down completely (approximately 5-10 seconds)
  2. Press and hold the ALARM , MINUS and SUNSET keys simultaneously.
  3. Whilst holding the three keys, apply power to the unit.
  4. Release the keys once the display shows four dash (-) characters
  5. A ‘24’ or ‘12’ should be displayed on the screen. Use the MINUS and PLUS keys to swap between the 12 and 24 hour modes. Press the centre CONFIRM key to accept your selection.
  6. The unit will reset and show the new chosen time format.

And that’s it. Now enjoy your new display. And, I have to say, that 12 hour time with AM/PM indicator looks pretty good!

  1. In all cases, I’m referring to the Bodyclocks with the round display – Glow 150, Spark 100 and Rise 100. I can’t confirm if other models work the same way. ↩︎
