How to fix “Not your AirPods”

If you’re rocking an iPhone and a neat pair of AirPods, one of the cool things is how they automatically connect each time you need to use them. But, sometimes, this appears to go wrong and, suddenly, your AirPods will pretend not to know you. Here I’m going to share a quick fix for this.

Anyway, this is the kind of message you may see…

Now, I recently had this after I removed the AirPods from my Mac. I was tired of them accidentally connecting to that instead of my phone, so I removed them from the Bluetooth list. What I didn’t know was that this then removes them from all my Apple devices. So, in this case, it genuinely wasn’t recognised, so I did have to hit the “Connect” button and re-sync them.

But, every so often, I’ll open them up and this will pop up for no reason.

And the fix… restart my phone. Once I’ve done that, I open up the case and they connect as usual.

I have no idea why this happens, but I suspect it’s a bug somewhere in iOS. If a restart doesn’t work then, as I had to do when I deleted it from my Mac, you may have to go through the process of setting it up again.
