Review: ESR Geo Wallet Stand

There are plenty of Magsafe compatible holders for the iPhone, where you snap something onto the back of the phone to hold a few of your credit and debit cards. However, ESR have decided to take the opportunity to differentiate their product on the market by adding in extra features.

In this case, they’ve added 4 extras – RFID protection for the cards, a stand, a holder and built-in Find My.

So, what you have is a slim-ish wallet (83g in weight), made in a leather-like material (but fooling no-one that it is leather), with some nice stitching around the edges. It folds over at the top, and does so in a stiff but smooth way – I was quite impressed without how the folding mechanism felt.

Within the folder is a power button (more on that later) and a small, transparent section to keep a card out of the way – some form of ID, e.g. a driving license, would work best here. 3 cards can be held on the outside, 2 on the inside.

On the outside, as I say, is a slip-in section for up to 3 cards. These are removed but pushing up from a small cut-away section at the bottom. On top of this is a small strap. This can be pushed up to form a loop, through which you can put a finger to hold your phone securely.

The wallet itself, being foldable, can be folded out, in a tent shape, so that you stand your phone up. Rotate it 90 degrees too. Plug in power and you can use it in StandBy mode.

The last feature here is Find My. And this is why, on the outside, there are some small metal contacts. The wallet is too slim for a traditional battery or even a USB socket, so ESR have had to find an alternative solution to powering this feature. A slimline battery is built into the thin lines of the wallet, and these pins are for a magnetic connector that comes with it. This snaps into place and, on the other end, a USB-C connector. If this bespoke cable breaks, you can contact ESR for a replacement. It’s not ideal but, considering the limitations, I don’t think there was much else they could have done. It takes about 1.5 hours to fully charge and should then keep going for around 3 months.

Anyway, Find My. This works just the same as any other device – you pair it to the Find My app and you can then seek out the wallet if it goes missing. It doesn’t have the wide-band transmitter in it that, say, an AirTag would have, so it’s not so accurate – this is totally reliant on Bluetooth.

The wallet stand is available in 3 colours – black, sand and brown.

ESR have a technology they call “Halolock”, which they say has a magnetic grip strength of 1500g, compared to Apple’s 700g. It works well, and means you’re not going to be worried about the wallet coming off and getting lost (but then, if it does…).

Okay, less “sexy” things – the packaging. It all comes in a slimline, attractive silver box. Slide out the interior and, apart from the wallet and cable, there’s a plethora of manuals and cards. Not sure why a full manual and guide start guide are needed, separately, and I’m not keen on the plastic being used to hold the cable, etc. – the packaging is so close to being plastic free, I wish they’d made that final step. I don’t need my cable being protected in a plastic bag!

But, back to that paper and card – it’s quite a lot and takes up as much bulk as the wallet itself….

Reduce that down and you can have an even slimmer product box.

Overall, this offers solid value for the price, providing a reliable—if not particularly groundbreaking—experience. While the components work as intended, the added bulk comes with a trade-off. Unlike a slim power bank that glides into a pocket, this wallet’s material is quite “grabby,” making it feel clunky and difficult to slide in and out throughout the day. However, you have to balance that with all the features that this gives you.

For the money, though – not much more than an AirTag – it’s excellent, and I’d highly recommend it.

You can buy the ESR Geo Wallet Stand from Amazon – it has an RRP of £42.99 but is currently 15% off.
