With MacOS Tahoe, Launchpad has gone. In its place is an Apps panel that shows all your applications, in alphabetical order. No way of grouping. No way of moving apps around. If you’ve forgotten the name of an app, you’ll find yourself slowly scrolling the list until you find it (as I’ve had to do a number of times since installing Tahoe just a few days ago).
Of all the changes made this, for me, is the biggest retrograde step. For anyone with Neurodiversities, there’ a good chance this new method if going to be a lot harder to use.
There are some alternatives on the market already but nothing yet that “clicks” with me, particularly when they’re not as easily accessible as the current 3-finger pinch together to access.
Meantime, I can at least try and improved the App panel. One thing I did struggle with what the insistence of it also showing me all my iPhone apps too. Of which there’s a lot. Thankfully, that can be turned off.
- Go into System Settings
- Scroll down and click on “Spotlight”
- In the right-hand panel scroll down to the bottom and you should see a toggle for “iPhone Apps”. Turn this off.

As I find further improvements, inc. recommended alternatives, I’ll report back here.
