BT & A Lack of Customer Service

They say you can really only judge a company when you need to use its customer service – not to buy something from them (in which case they’ll be quick to respond and attentive) but to report something going wrong.

Well, I’ve had the opportunity to test BT – a company that gets my landline phone (yes, I still use it and I have free calls at any time of day), broadband (top of the range Infinity 2) and TV. Needless to say they get a fair chunk of my wage each month.

Anyway my HomeHub 5 failed. Here’s what happened as I attempted to get it fixed.

    Sainsbury’s doesn’t want my money

After signing up with BT I was sent £50 worth of Sainsbury’s vouchers. We rarely shop at them and to be honest I wanted to use them as a treat for myself, rather than simply buying toilet rolls and Fruit and Fibre.

Looking on their website, they sell Google Nexus 7 tablets – something I’ve had my eye on for a while. With £50 off it’s an even better bargain than it was already. Sadly, and like many other “bricks and mortar” retailers, you can’t use their gift cards online. But, they do have a “click and collect” service. Brilliant – I can order it online, have it sent to a shop and part buy it with my cards. Erm, no. They expect you to pay on the site.

    BT Infinity 2

On Monday 1st October a BT engineer installed at my home BT Infinity 2. This is the double speed version of the original Infinity product, which provides fibre-optic “to the cabinet”. Infinity 2 also doesn’t have the capped downloads that the, still available, standard Infinity package does.

A week previous I received a BT Home Hub along with another package “for the engineer”. This was simply an installation disk, some manuals for me and a couple of of Ethernet cables.

ProductTesting.uk.com and why you should avoid them

ProductTesting.uk.com is a company promising to provide free products for review purposes. Okay, they don’t say EVERYONE will get something but at least you could be in with a chance. I get enough products from companies, agencies and my own pocket to keep me busy but thought, as a lot of these companies can be “too good to be true” to see what happens. Sadly, it was worse than I could have imagined.

Today I go to order some curtains (don’t ask) from Next online. All goes well until the point where I need to sign in or set up an account.
