My life at Automattic
WCEU is just a few weeks away, this time coming from the beautiful city of Athens.
And, assuming it doesn’t put you off, I’ll be one of the speakers. My talk has the title of “10 Things WordPress Plugin Developers Should Avoid”. I promise it’s less click-baity than the title suggests.
Just a few weeks since my last meetup, I’m on the move again. This time it’s my team’s meetup and we’re heading to Vienna in Austria.
We’ve split the team between a hotel and a nearby Airbnb, the latter of which will be where we all meet up during the day. This not only gives us that meeting place but gives individuals a choice of what kind of accommodation they want.

Back in 2017, I revealed, after just a few months working and travelling for Automattic, what I carried with me in my backpack. Each year I’ve repeated this. Well, until 2020 when travel became a memory. Now, in 2023, with travel very much back, I’m ready to give an update.

Visiting Lisbon 3 times for work obviously wasn’t enough. Or me going last August for a family holiday. So now I’m back, feeling like it was only yesterday.

This week I’d ordered a small item from Ninja, which was coming via Royal Mail. I thought it odd that it was being delivered from the Northampton Delivery Office, which was no-where near me.
Anyway, it was due for delivery on Thursday. An hour after the predicted delivery time I had a message to say it had been delivered. It hadn’t. But there was a confirmation photo.
