  • And… I’m Back

    After some website disruption over the last 24 hours, I’m happy to report that the changes are complete. What? You haven’t spotted them?

    Well, they’re both in the address bar at the top of your screen. First of all, the domain is now artiss.blog and not artiss.co.uk (this was always a blog rather than a company, so the recent launch of the .blog domain has allowed me to correct this).

    Secondly, I now have a sparkly SSL certificate installed, hence the https and padlock at the beginning. Combined with running under PHP 7, my site now meets the latest recommendations for a WordPress site.

    Joining the shiny IoT future

    Nobody could accuse me of being a technophobe but, when it comes to  connecting up my home, a homeplug for the PS4 was the pinnacle of my home network. But that’s now changing.

    I’d already had plans but Black Friday may have advanced them somewhat. I’d intended to get an Amazon Alexa for myself for Christmas but the price cut last week prompted me to get it now. I got both an Echo and Dot and so far love it.

    Living with Sensory Overload

    For the last few years I occasionally suffer from something called “sensory overload“. Symptoms in those that experience it vary. In my case, sometimes, when I get to much sensory information coming in (lots of movement, lots of sounds) it causes me to be agitated and feel sick.

    Charity Shaming – Please, don’t do it

    According to Urban Dictionary charity shaming is…

    To coerce, force, pressure or intimidate another person to donate to a cause that one has personally deemed worthy

    Because, well, that wouldn’t be right, would it? To try and bully or shame somebody into either donating to or taking part in a charity event. But, sadly, it’s more and more prevalent and no more so than at work at the moment.
