Sorting through a cupboard recently, I stumbled across an iPod Touch that I haven’t seen for many years.
It’s a 4th Generation iPod Touch, which were made between 2010-2012. Looking at the photos on it, the first photo is dated 2012, so I’m guessing I got it around then.
What’s interesting, though, is turning it on and seeing what a great time machine it is.

Back in 2017, I revealed, after just a few months working and travelling for Automattic, what I carried with me in my backpack. 2 years on, and many more trips, and that content has changed. I don’t carry everything with me at all times and will modify the bag contents based on where I’m travelling (travel light, you know!).
What has massively changed is the amount of tech I now carry, as I was always lacking a cable or adapter. A much bigger cable organiser bag has allowed me to put all of this in one place but I’ve also taken the opportunity to review what I have and why.

About 18 months ago, I bought a 3M privacy screen for my Touch-bar model MacBook Pro 13″. It was one of the few (from a known brand) on the market for this model at the time. However, I’ve now also purchased a Kensington model – 50% more expensive than the 3M version. But is it any better?

The brand-new Apple Watch 4 came out yesterday, so users of older models may be considering using Apple’s Giveback scheme to get some money towards the new one. But, certainly in the UK, this doesn’t work quite as well as you’d hope.

In a couple of days I head for Montreal for the annual company meetup, the 11th trip I’ve taken with work in the last 18 months. Now, I’m not a seasoned, back-packing traveller but having to regularly head out, for anything from a few days to a week, I’m already getting pretty used to the whole experience.
And, having exchanged tips with colleagues, and also seen some panic on those not so used to this life yet, I thought I’d share some of my own advice.
