How to replace the battery in a mid-2012 Macbook Pro
Some time ago, I detailed how to replace the hard drive in a mid-2012 Macbook Pro and, now, after 4.5 years of use, it’s time for the battery to be replaced.
Apart from the battery you’ll need 2 screwdrivers to do this – A Phillips #00 Screwdriver and a Y1 Tri-wing Screwdriver. Some kind of plastic “spudger” will be needed as well.
The battery I purchased from Amazon came with both the required screwdrivers and I had a spudger from a phone repair kit.

How to fix the xcrun error after an MacOS update
I’ve been running the beta of MacOS Sierra for a while now and, apart from the odd niggle (which I’ve obviously reported), all has been fine. That was until I went to use my Subversion client for the first time…
xcrun: error: invalid active developer path (/Library/Developer/CommandLineTools), missing xcrun at: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools/usr/bin/xcrunNow, the issue here is that the command line tools are either missing or broken. The same happened after El Capitan, so this appears to be a general issue and one that, sadly, Apple don’t seem to fix.

How to upgrade a Mid-2012 Macbook Pro to SSD
It was back in August 2012 that I bought myself a Macbook Pro. It’s still going just as strong today, now with the latest version of OS X (although battery lift is not what it was). It wasn’t a standard build as I opted for a 120GB SSD, instead of the usual mechanical drive. As I wasn’t storing music, videos or photos on it I felt that 120GB of storage would be plenty, and the SSD would add extra resilience.
However, although storage of media is still not something I do on it, I do make extensive use of iMovie. And it positively eats drive storage. Thankfully, since, SSD prices have dropped, so it’s time for a replacement.
