What does the light on the Twelve South AirFly mean?

Twelve South’s AirFly allows you to easily connect your Bluetooth headphones to the in-flight entertainment system on an airplane. Plug the AirFly into the headphone socket on the seat back and enjoy a Bluetooth connection to your headphones of choice!

The instructions provided get you started but are sparse on details of what the various combination of light mean on the device. There are 3 versions of the AirFly available too – AirFly SE, AirFly Pro and AirFly Pro Deluxe – but the light is the same on each.

So, for the curious, here’s what it means…

Flashes white twice – The AirFly has just been powered on.

Flashing white and amber – The AirFly is in pairing mode and waiting for the headphones to pair with.

Flashing white twice every 5 seconds – The AirFly is in stand-by mode. This means it’s paired with headphones, but the headphones are not active or turned on.
For AirPods, this means that they’re not in your ears. Once you put them in, the light should turn solid white, then turn off.

Solid white – This means the AirFly is paired and connected to your headphones. This light will turn off after a few seconds.

Amber light flashes 3 times, then turns off – The battery is low.

Solid amber – The AirFly is charging. When the amber light turns off the AirFly is fully charged.
