On Monday 1st October a BT engineer installed at my home BT Infinity 2. This is the double speed version of the original Infinity product, which provides fibre-optic “to the cabinet”. Infinity 2 also doesn’t have the capped downloads that the, still available, standard Infinity package does.
A week previous I received a BT Home Hub along with another package “for the engineer”. This was simply an installation disk, some manuals for me and a couple of of Ethernet cables.
Back in April I upgraded my ZyXEL NSA210 NAS to the ZyXEL NSA310 model. Quicker hardware and improved features made the £50 outlay worthwhile.
After getting my Mac the other week I switched on the Time Machine option within the NSA310. Although the documentation for it stated a complex process for connecting the two up (although that documentation is now out of date – both the NAS firmware and version of OS X have moved on) I found that the NAS simply appeared in Time Machine. I set it up and the initial backup started. Unfortunately, it stopped after the first few gigabytes and, although listed under Finder, I found that I was unable to re-connect.

Pinnacle has recently been purchased by one of their rivals, Corel, so the video editor market is a tougher choice – offers such as this will certainly making certain purchases a lot easier.
It wasn’t too long ago that I would always talk about Apple products negatively. However, reading Steve Jobs’ autobiography I began to understand a little more of what he was trying to achieve (even if I didn’t like the man himself). This, coupled with frustration at the way that hardware and software often don’t “gel” together, has lead me to appreciate a lot more the walled community that Apple has created – control over both elements has meant that they can ensure that everything just works.
A friend had been trying to get me interested in Battlefield 3 for a while. It was only after finding that I had some Nectar points to spend that I decided to buy it. Having said that it’s only £25.
At first I had no idea what I was doing, but assistance from the same friend helped out. He’s often online when I’m playing and we group together (a shame he has a rubbish headset, though).
